Travis Perkins builds Americas Cup World Series partnership
Builders' merchant and home improvement retailer Travis Perkins has been announced as an official event partner of the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series event in Portsmouth for the second year running.
Travis Perkins sponsored last year's leg of the America's Cup qualifying series in the UK city, and will again offer its support when the event returns on 23rd and 24th July.
As part of its commitment, Travis Perkins is helping to fund the Portsmouth Sailing Project, which aims to promote the sport to young people by offering them short sailing taster sessions, allowing them to get out on the water in smaller versions of the AC45 catamarans used in the America's Cup.
“This is our second year as an official event partner and we’re excited to see more children from the local area out on the water and at the skate park, trying something new and learning new skills," said Carol Kavanagh, HR director at Travis Perkins.
“We are built on family values and this is what makes us different from many big businesses. Being a good member of the community is a key part of our vision and that’s why we wanted to partner with the America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth. There are around 300 Travis Perkins businesses in a 50-mile radius of Portsmouth, so this sponsorship presents a great opportunity to support our employees and customers in this area."
The World Series is currently led by Team New Zealand, with Oracle Team USA, the America's Cup holders, in second place. British sailor Sir Ben Ainslie's Land Rover BAR team, who will be racing on home waters in Portsmouth, are in third place.
