Rolling sports business news wrap: Every deal, every day

Media rights: The likes of 21st Century Fox media group and European pay-television broadcaster Sky have contributed to a US$75 milion further investment in US sports-focused over-the-top streaming service FuboTV.

The Series D round, aimed at expanding FuboTV's operations, included new participation from entertainment company AMC Networks, along with existing investors Fox, Sky, venture capital firm Luminari Capital, technology investment partnership Northzone and cable-television channel owner Scripps Networks Interactive, part of Discovery Communications.

According to Variety, FuboTV has now raised US$150 million in total. The new funds will be used by the New York-based company to expand its engineering and product teams, as well as increase marketing spend and produce new content bundles in the US and internationally. It will also reportedly seek to open a second major office in a yet to be determined location.

“The pay-TV space is experiencing a renaissance, and the company will use this investment to continue to drive technological advancement in video quality and latency, machine learning and predictive analytics to deliver a best-in-class experience,” said David Gandler, FuboTV chief executive and co-founder.

Golf: IMG and NBC Sports have announced that the PNC Financial Services Group has extended its contract as title sponsor of the PNC Father/Son Challenge, the tournament that pairs the games’ legends alongside their sons, daughters and grandchildren.

In the UK, Diabetes UK and the European Tour Foundation have been chosen as the official charity partners of the 2018 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Motorsports: Discovery-owned pay-TV broadcaster Velocity has acquired rights in the US and Canada to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) motor-racing series in a long-term deal.

Kindness General Contractors (KGC) will have its primary graphics on the Jim Dunn Racing Funny Car during this year’s NHRA SpringNationals in Baytown, Texas after taking up a primary sponsorship deal.

Soccer: Italian top-flight women's side Brescia have signed a three-match sponsorship deal with dating website C-Date. The deal, which starts with match against Atalanta, sees them become the first club in Europe to sign a deal with such a platform.

Blockchain fantasy sports site Stryking Entertainment has signed Ballon d’Or winner Luís Figo as its brand ambassador for their platform.

In England, non-League side Leyton Orient have agreed a two-year shirt sponsorship deal with fantasy platform Dream Team.

Basketball: Euroleague has signed a digital media partnership with Lithuanian platform 15min.lt in a deal that commences from the 2018-19 seasons of the EuroLeague and EuroCup club competitions and will run through to 2022.

Triathlon: Zone3 has announced the extension of its relationship with national governing body Triathlon Ireland as the organisation’s official swim partner.

Athletics: Abbott and the World Marathon Majors have announced the renewal of the American health care company’s title sponsorship until 2023, with the new four-year agreement beginning in 2019. The AbbottWMM series consists of the Tokyo, Boston, Virgin Money London, BMW BERLIN, Bank of America Chicago and TCS New York City marathons.

Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has taken up title sponsorship of the Malta Marathon. The event will now be known as the GiG Malta Marathon.

Tennis: Danesi Caffe has become a sponsor the ATP 1,000 series Italian Open.

Baseball: The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has confirmed the launch of its new commercial and marketing arm, Base.

Sailing: World Sailing has revealed details of its new annual Offshore World Championship, which will be held for the first time in 2019 as a double-handed mixed competition between nations, featuring 20 boats.

Multi-sport: NatWest has renewed its title sponsorship of the Island Games. The extended deal covers the 2021 edition of the event in Guernsey.

Polo: The United States Polo Association (USPA) has announced that CBS Sports will return as the broadcast partner for the 2018 US Open Polo Championship in Florida.

The newly released LPGA co-branded Weatherman golf umbrella will be used players, rules officials and staff during weather delays and in 'scorching heat' according to the press release.
