Oman Air has been confirmed as the sponsor of Oman Sail's entry in this year's Transat Jacques Vabre Race sailing event.

Irishman Damian Foxall has been confirmed as a co-skipper of the entry, alongside Sidney Gavignet for the race, which begins in November from Le Havre. Two-person teams will race to the Brazilian port of Itajai.

The Oman Air-branded boat is also being supported by Oman's ministry of tourism. Oman Sail, which was founded in 2008, is a national initiative aimed at promoting sailing at various levels, as both a sporting and lifestyle pursuit.

Wayne Pearce, the chief executive officer of Oman Air, said: “In line with Oman Air’s mission of promoting in-bound tourism to Oman, the national carrier is proud to be associated with Oman Sail, which positions the country at the highest possible level of elite discerning travellers.”

David Graham, the British chief executive of Oman Sail, added: “The Transat Jacques Vabre is one of the most challenging offshore races in the world and, departing from France, is a natural choice for our sponsors Oman Air and the Ministry of Tourism of Oman who see the event as an ideal platform to communicate with their target audience."

Dailymotion agrees TV deals for Extreme Sailing and Kieler Woche

Meanwhile, online video service Dailymotion has signed two new sailing deals. It has agreed packages with Extreme Sailing and the Real TV Group to show, respectively, the Extreme Sailing Series and Germany's biggest sailing event, Kieler Woche.

Marc Eychenne, the head of international content for Dailymtion, said: “These new deals will continue to bring excellent live sporting content to our audience of over 112 million viewers and essential exposure to race organisers, helping them to grow their audiences and increase sponsorship opportunities.”
